Community Care
Services was established over 30 years ago. A man named Jud
Stone was working for a social services agency which served primarily
the needs of children. He saw a further need to help adults with
problems. His vision and strong personal drive eventually brought
into being a new agency for adult care--the Six Area Coalition.
About the same time the Wayne County Community Mental Health Board
created Cornerstone Counseling to address the unmet needs in the
community. In early 1985, it became apparent that by combining
the strengths of both organizations, more could be accomplished with a
far greater efficiency. That was the "birth" of Community Care
Services.
Today Community Care Services provides outpatient mental health and
substance abuse services to over 3,000 individuals and families each
year. As a non-profit Agency, Community Care Services works to
reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness.
